Ralf Schumacher: "Life feels easier with Étienne"
Seven-time Formula 1 race winner Ralf Schumacher (47) replaces his career goal with his private happiness.
The sky over Cologne is gray on this November day. Ralf Schumacher (47) strolls through the cathedral city with a big smile on his face. He is happy to be here, happy about his life. "I am in a very, very good place right now," he says.
For 18 years, the racing driver was in a relationship with Cora Schumacher (45). But in 2015, the couple divorced. It was a turbulent separation that attracted a lot of attention. At the end of 2020, the racing legend found his new love: Étienne Ratel (65). Ralf Schumacher has been in a relationship with the Frenchman for more than two years. And it seems to be the great love.
"With Étienne, life feels much easier. I don't feel like I have to prove anything to him," says Ralf Schumacher. "He accepts me as I am." The racing driver likes being able to be himself with Étienne Ratel. "I don't have to put on any airs. I can just be Ralf."
Ralf Schumacher and Étienne Ratel have many shared interests. Both are passionate about motor sports. And both are happy to travel the world. "We have a lot of fun together," says Ralf Schumacher. "We laugh a lot and we enjoy spending time together." The couple is not only connected by their love but also by their children. Ralf Schumacher has a son, David (20), from his marriage to Cora Schumacher. Étienne Ratel has two daughters, Romy (27) and Lilou (25), from his previous relationship. The children all get along well.
"We are a big, happy family," says Ralf Schumacher. "I am very grateful for that." The racing driver is now enjoying his life to the fullest. He has a great partner, wonderful children and a successful career. "I am in a very good place right now," he says. "I wouldn't want it any other way."
